Editorial Summary: Some Redditors swear it’s magic for smoothing and acne, others say it dries them out or smells weird. Not a miracle but decent if you want gentle chemical exfoliation. Pricey for what it does, and watch out if you’re sensitive to drying.
Methodology: Analyzed 10 quotes from Reddit discussions across 18 skincare-focused subreddits including SkincareAddiction and 30PlusSkinCare, dated between August 2017 and June 2025, to synthesize common user experiences and sentiments.

I think it’s because there’s been a major shift into protecting the skin barrier: removing dirt and EXCESS oil without stripping the skin etc. sounds like you need a chemical exfoliant face wash. Something with glycolic acid in it but I wouldn’t use it every day unless very mild. I’ve used the Mario badescu glycolic foaming facial cleanser and found it good.

I have this and I definitely don’t think it’s worth it. If you’re looking for a good glycolic acid this isn’t it. Glycolic acid needs a lot more time on your face than a face wash that’s only on your face for a minute at the most. And for a face wash? It’s not worth the price imo. I’m using it up on my body as a mild exfoliant for kp but I honestly don’t even like it much for that
Maybe I'm a bit late to the party, but here's my experience: the facial spray is a big meh and leaves my skin really sticky but the same goes for the Shiseido one, so maybe they don't work for me at all; the glycolic cleanser, on the other side...I can't live without it, works wonders and since it's unusual to find glycolic acid in a cleanser I'm sticking to it, even though I recently discovered about MB alleged issues!
It’s not a bad cleanser but I don’t think it’s worth the money. It makes my skin feel kinda tight and I didn’t see a difference after two bottles. I went back to CeraVe and I’m much happier.
Edit: I agree about Mario Badescu. That stuff did not agree with my face even though I heard good things all over the place. And then I read about their deceptive ingredient list.
I actually found the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser is the only thing that works for my sensitive skin. I was dealing with breakouts for months and when I finally switched, it cleared up in a matter of days. I swear by it and the drying lotion for mild but persistent acne suffers.
I got a sample pack of MB products, I really don’t use the facial spray water. One product I bought and will buy again is the glycolic foaming cleanser. Makes my skin so smooth.
LRP has a lovely gentle cleanser. I also love the one my Mario badescu. If you’re looking for gentle- these are it. Especially since your need seems to be temporary? For something still gentle but a little more ‘fancy’ Tula has a cleanser literally called “the cult classic” so… there’s that. I use the Tula nightly after an oil cleanser to remove my makeup and such. In the morning, I don’t use a cleanser, just rinse. It’s made the biggest difference!!
